California Water Quality Agency questions Disco Bay compliance
August 26, 2008
Halfway To Concord has obtained an e-mail, dated August 18, 2008, to a Discovery Bay CSD representative, from Jim Fischer of the State Water Quaity agency, who wrote—
“Attached is the most recent NOI we have for your agency. In looking at the data in CIWQS, it appears your agency was enrolled back on 2006, is not complying with the General Order (No. 2006-0003-DWQ) and could be subject to enforcement action. As an enrollee covered under the SSO program General Permit, the Order requires you (CSD) to (at least) monthly report data to our system(CIWQS), either a no-spill certification if you didn’t have any overflows or actual SSOs. More information can be found in the Order here. Secondly, the Order requires you to complete (within 30 days of receiving your access data to CIWQS), the Sewer System Questionnaire for your sanitary sewer system online, before you can enter and Certify any SSOs. Last, the Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP) elements must be certified in CIWQS online (the Development Plan/Schedule, Goal and Organization sections state water quality agency questions disco bay compliance were all due May 2, 2008). Please complete the Questionnaire and submit your data (either SSOs or no spill certification) back to May 2, 2007 (when mandatory reporting for your geographical area (Region 3) was required per the Order (we have a table on our website for more info). Please call me if you have any questions and we look forward to helping you comply with the Order.”

Shit hits fan in Disco Bay
August 25, 2008
Residents of the Lakeshore Development in Discovery Bay are up to their necks in airborne feces while the Community Service Directors “pooh pooh” the problem. When a recent sewage spill took place July 17, it was reported as less than 10,000-gallon spill of raw sewage in the lake at Lakeshore. According to a resident of Discovery Bay, “There was no notice to the general community. The local paper only published what they were told by CSD and not the whole story. As time went on and more people started asking questions about public safety, the spill volume was finally admitted to be 50,000 gallons of raw sewage!” Worse, for six days sewage was spewing from fountains that sprayed crap out over the lake and residences. Residents were not properly notified to stay away from the contaminated water. Read more

Golf tournament to benefit wounded vets, Sept 8
August 20, 2008
Two Contra Costa County businessmen have found a meaningful way to give back to the wounded military men and women who have fought for our freedom and liberties. Together, with the assistance of the Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes (CSAH) out of Washington, D.C., they are instituting an inaugural charity golf tournament to raise money for our wounded soldiers returning from war. Chairman Gregory Di Loreto, President of Bravo Building Co. Inc. (Pittsburg, Ca.) and Co-Chairmen Brandon Day, Vice-President of Wachovia Securities (Walnut Creek, Ca.) chose CSAH, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to rebuilding the lives of severely wounded war veterans and their families, as the charity for the tournament.
The tournament, dinner and silent auction will be held on Monday, September 8, 2008 at the Oakhurst Country Club, 1001 Peacock Creek Drive in Clayton. Shotgun start begins at 10:30 a.m., dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. A raffle will be held for a trip for two to Washington, D.C. Sponsorships, foursomes and single-player golf tickets are available.
