CCRP Speaker Series continues, Apr 22 and May 20

The April and May editions of the 2008 Speaker Series presented by the Contra Costa Republican Party (CCRP) and sponsored by KSFO-560AM will be held April 22 and May 20th, at the Contra Costa Country Club, located at 801 Golf Club Road in Pleasant Hill. Cocktail hour begins at 6:00 p.m., with the speaker scheduled for 7:00 p.m.; with CCRP business meeting to follow.
The April 22th speaker is author/columnist Dan Weintraub, of the Sacramento Bee. May 12 will feature a special panel discussion on the War on Terrorism and Islamo-Facism.
Admission is $25 per event or $125 for the entire series that runs through July.
Houston Brentwood Leap Day fundraiser, Feb 29

The Guy Houston for Supervisor campaign will hold a fundraiser in Brentwood on Leap Day, Friday, February 29, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Brentwood Veteran’s Hall, 757 First Street, Brentwood, CA 94513. Cost is $30.00 per person.

Diablo Valley pastors and churches offer iLent events beginning, Feb 6

Diablo Valley pastors and churches are sponsoring a 40-day, iLent Project that includes a web site, a booklet with daily devotional written by local pastors, a pastor swap, YouTube videos, online dialog, discussion of featured videos and more, all during Lent, beginning Feb 6 thru Easter, March 23. In association with Churches Without Shoes, the 20+ congregations are exploring ways they can work together to better serve God and Community.
- February 10 will see Diablo Valley churches swap pastors during Sunday services
- A 5-Fold Ministry Conference is planned for February 22-23, at St Matthew’s on Wiget Lane
- March 17, 40-hrs of prayer thru Maundy Thursday at Hills Vineyard Community Center
- March 20, Community Wide Communion at Walnut Creek Presbyterian in Walnut Creek
Additional community service and teaching events are planned for April and May. Stay tuned.

Walnut Creek to call in Border Patrol?

After its second homicide of the year, one in which Walnut Creek police were bewildered as to what business a nearby, Pittsburg resident could possibly have in the tony, downtown hotspot area of the WC, city officials began drawing up plans to get the Governor and President to station Border Patrols at the city’s main entrance points off Hwy 680.
Official plans, that city leaders insist do not violate profiling ordinances, will require all non-caucasians produce a current pay stub to prove they either work or have business in Walnut Creek. Any caucasian suspected of making less than $200,000 per year will be required to produce a notarized copy of their previous year’s W2. Read more
Contra Costa taxpayer groups release report cards for State reps

The Contra Costa County Taxpayers published the report card grades for local state reprentatives based on their fiduciary duties to represent taxpayers. Here are the results:
The Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association (www.hjta.org) has released its Legislative Report Card for 2007: state lawmakers from our area were rated as follows:
- Senator Tom Torlakson = F
- Assemblyman Mark DeSaulnier = F
- Assemblywoman Loni Hancock = F
- Assemblyman Guy Houston = A
The California Taxpayers Association (www.caltax.org), which has been around since 1926, recently issued its annual Cal-Tax Voting Record on the bills they considered most important. State lawmakers from our area took the same position advocation by CalTax in the following percentages:
- Senator Tom Torlakson = 0%
- Assemblyman Mark DeSaulnier = 17%
- Assemblywoman Loni Hancock = 13%
- Assemblyman Guy Houston = 100%
