Robert Rao touts Assembly 15 campaign distinctives
February 22, 2008
In a recent mailer, Republican Assembly (AD-15) primary candidate Robert Rao, says Democrats want to:
“Raise your property taxes; Raise your income taxes; Raise the yearly registration on our cars; Close the State Historical parks…and early release of 22,000 prisoners”
Instead, Rao promises to target:
“Expensive and underperforming programs that have not met their goals; Hundreds of duplicate and unnecessary programs; Pork, fraud and waste out of government…and we can start by getting rid of the ‘elevator operators’ in the State Capitol. Our elected leaders can push their own buttons”
But with which hand will Rao press the electorate’s buttons? In pictures posted on his campaign web site we are given the impression Rao is ambidextrious; using both his left and right hands to sign documents.

Local candidates announce state and county campaign news
February 13, 2008
Scott Kamena’s campaign for the Republican nomination for the 15th State Assembly race announced this week that Councilman Jeff Williams, became the fifth member of the Livermore City Council to publicly endorse Kamena’s campaign, marking the first unanimous City Council endorsement in the race for the 15th Assembly District. Livermore is the largest city in the sprawling district, which encompasses portions of Alameda, Contra Costa, Sacramento and San Joaquin counties. The endorsement of the City Council follows the unanimous endorsement of the Livermore Area Recreation and Parks District to which Kamena has been
elected twice.
Meanwhile, the Guy Houston campaign for the Contra Costa County Supervisor seat (D-III), announced it finished 2007 with $187,189 in total contributions. Incumbent Contra Costa Supervisor, Mary Piepho, raised $15,073 in the last six months since Houston announced his run for Supervisor. Houston also has garnered key county endorsements from Treasurer Bill Polleck, Assessor Gus Kramer and Sheriff Warren Rupf.

To date, Kamena says he has collected the vast majority of his contributions from sources within the 15th Assembly District. Central Labor Council launches smear campaign against Pinole Recall
January 24, 2008
The Contra Costa Central Labor Council has prepared a 30-second anti-recall TV smear ad on Comcast Spotlight that will air on cable TV stations (TBS, TNT, Bravo, AMC, CNN, USA, etc.). Makes you wonder why organized labor is apparently paying for all of Councilwoman Maria Alegria’s campaign materials. Do you wonder if it has anything to do with upcoming contract negotiations?
The West County Times editorial mentioned in the ad also stated that both Recall Targets, Maria Alegria and Stephen Tilton, were “unprofessional and incompetent,” and confirmed all of the charges brought by the Pinole Recall group.
You can see KPIX-5 coverage about anti-recall (employee of Pear Street Bistro) theft of campaign signs.
Republican Simonsen to support Democrat Freitas over Republican Nunn
January 13, 2008
Republican Antioch Councilman, Arnie Simonsen, danced lightly around the issue last week when he told CC Times political editor, Lisa Vorderbrueggen, “We (Republicans) don’t eat our young.” Simonsen says he opposes handing out party endorsements in partisan or nonpartisan contests where the field contains two or more Republicans. “I don’t see us endorsing anyone under those circumstances, I really don’t,” Simonsen said.
Yet, Simonsen, a member of the Contra Costa Republican Party Central Committee (CCRP), has already promised to support fellow Antioch Councilman Don Freitas, a Democrat, instead of supporting Republican Erik Nunn for the District V Supervisor seat currently held by embattled Federal Glover.
In a November e-mail a Republican asked Simonsen, Read more
