Agopian Supervisor campaign picks Gary Gilbert as campaign manager

Gary Agopian, candidate for County Supervisor in the 5th Supervisorial District, announced today that he has named Gary Gilbert as his Campaign Chairman. Gilbert is the Founder of United Citizens for Better Neighborhoods (UCBN) and Antioch’s 2006 Citizen of Year for his advocacy for the Antioch Police and neighborhood safety. According to Gilbert, “The citizens of District 5 deserve leadership we can trust and leadership we can believe in. Housing crisis hits East County tax rolls hardest

The East Bay Business Times last week reported that: “Contra Costa County and the cities of Antioch, Brentwood and Oakley will take what could be the region’s biggest tax hit from declining property…the three East Contra Costa County cities saw sharp declines in property assessments - down 8.84 percent in Antioch, 8.78 percent in Brentwood and 5.54 percent in Oakley. Contra Costa County saw just under a quarter of 1 percent jump in total property assessments, according to Assessor Gus Kramer.” Read more

Federal Glover responds to campaign sign vandalism

Supervisor Glover’s campaign says its signs are being stolen and vandalized at an alarming rate and that Supervisor Glover has established a “vandalism patrol” of volunteers who are committed to catching the bullies who are tearing down his expensive campaign signs. The topic of the breakfast and Q&A will be the economy, the No. 1 concern of the public according to polls. Where is it going? Will it get worse? When will it get better? The supervisor is presenting two speakers who will address that topic:
- Michael Consol, publisher of the East Bay Business Times, who will talk about the national and state economies.
- County Assessor Gus Kramer will talk about the impact the economic downturn is having on the county.

Antioch Library awarded for innovative programs

The Antioch Library’s innovative Wednesday Club for adults received a $1000 award from the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies/National Organization on Disabilities (ASCLA/NOD). Funds received from the award will be used to expand the library’s programming and to build a collection of materials for adults with developmental disabilities. Antioch Library staff will receive the award at the American Library Association’s annual conference in June 2008.
