Supervisor Candidate, Erik Nunn, chastises Federal Glover for Antioch prison vote

February 27, 2008

In a recent e-mail blast, Erik Nunn, a candidate for Contra Costa County Supervisor (D-5), chastised incumbent Federal Glover, for voting to have County staff spend their time at taxpayer expense studying a proposal to build a 500 bed re-entry facility near Deer Valley High School, two elementary schools, a hospital, existing residential neighborhoods and a proposed retirement community.

It took Antioch residents all of 24 hours to express their outrage. Community leaders, already deeply concerned about crime in Antioch, were stunned that their County representative would propose the study without consulting local residents and stakeholders. Elected officials in communities near the proposed facility have told me they were not consulted about the decision to study the Antioch site. If they had been asked their position, the Supervisor would have known the proposal was ill-conceived from the beginning.

Nunn concludes, “I would have never voted for the 500 bed re-entry facility in Antioch. I would have listened to the residents of my district, local law enforcement officials, educators, other elected officials, and just by listening, it would have been very obvious, Antioch was a very poor choice. It should have been that simple.”

This is too funny. If Antioch is suffering a crime wave then what better place to stick a prison. The dorks on the city council for years has wanted to get rid of the Fair Grounds. I am sure someone will come up with a plan to put it there.Think of the local jobs it would create. NOT!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHHA!!!!!!!!

The bottom line is that unlike Mary Piepho Federal Glover will not be defeated in June. He is there as long as he wants the job.

I disagree renegade Gop, Erik Nunn has a very good chance of beating Glover. Glover is a horrible candidate and should have been voted out last term. I cannot wait to see him defeated.

    Samantha,
Not since Erik change from Republican to Democrat just to get more votes.
I will not vote for him. I will vote for Gary Agopian.

The transition from prison to urban life has not be resolved and will not be resolved if we only want to wait for this problem to go away.

Supervisor Glover had the moral courage to tackle this problem and deserves our commendation and support, even while free to object as to the choice of location.

The truth is that the transition must happen in a urban area, with job training, a job and a place to live.
If the transition fails, like it often does, the culprit goes back to jail at a cost of over $100,000 per year to the taxpayer. This problem must be resolved because we simply cannot afford to pay for all those that fial to survive in a civil environment.

Should that be in one city but not another? That is a tough issue and, evidently, new candidates for office are willing to avoid such tough problems.

Do they know there are other problems that are also tought that must be faced but because they only get worse the longer they are ignored?

Renegade GOP That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long time! WOW I got a great laugh out of that. Almost as funny as Glovers Slogan “Glover Delivers” Yeah he delivers False promisses. Federal needs to start packing up his desk. Come election day, he’s gone!

I didn’t like the fact Nunn changed parties, but I still like what he stands for. Democrat or Republican, don’t matter as long as Glover is gone and the much needed changes are made.

    Drew,
I don’t have a dog in this race. The wacky far right has liked Nunn for a long time. If he defeats Glover it will be a HUGE win. Maybe changing to Democrat can help.
I am sure Mary Piepho will be switching soon!!

    Drew,
That is my whole problem with Nunn. What exactly does he stand for? Republican principles or Democratic principles? Against the urban limit line in one instance and for in another, First to speak against the prison plan, or … oops, maybe he wasn’t. Does six years as a security guard really allow you to claim law enforcement experience? Pastor or anti-gay prankster? CEO or ddaily operations officer? Anti-development or Seeno stooge? Hard negotiator or union lackey? It seems Nunn is whatever you want him to be. What I don’t want is a rubber-spined, gutless, undefinable amoeba.

    TRUTH WILL WIN
In interest of the Truth, we present the following critique of Erik Nunn’s hit “Section 8” piece against Supervisor Glover:

FLIER: “Makes thousands of dollars a month as a Section 8 landlord.
TRUTH: It is true the Federal Glover makes thousands of dollars because he is paid a salary for his work as a supervisor. It is also true he owns one Section 8 property in Oakland for which he charges rent. What’s wrong with that? None of his other properties listed in the flier, including the one pictured on School Street in Pittsburg, is part of the Section 8 program. The flier deliberately tries to pull the wool over the eyes of the voter under guilt by association: If one property is Section 8, all the rest must be too.

FLIER: “Receives over $8,123 from Contra Costa Countyh taxpayers each month.”
TRUTH: That is the monthly salary of a county supervisor who often works 60 to 75 hours a week. The flier hopes the voter will mistakenly assume this is the amount Supervisor Glover receives as a landlord.

FLIER: “Why won’t he pay his garbage bills on his Section 8 rentals?”
TRUTH: Most landlords require that tenants pay for the garbage service. If the tenant does not pay, or vacates the property without the landlord being noticed, the unpaid bill is automatically forwarded to the landlord. Glover does pay those delinquent bills when he receives them. Fact is, he has not even received the two liens in 2008 on his lone property in Oakland. When he receives the bills, he pay them as he has done in the past when his tenants fails to pay their garbage bills for whatever reason. The flier hopes the voter will think the supervisor deliberately is evading payment of his bills.

FLIER: “It pi@#* me off to sit here today and for someone to say, ‘Forgive me, I didn’t know what the code was.’”
TRUTH: That quote is accurate but it is taken completely out of context. The supervisor said that during hearings on unpermitted dwellings that were built illegally and in violation of building codes on a Delta island by well-heeled squatters who wanted exemptions for their illegal vacation homes.

FLIER: “But when Federal Glover doesn’t pay his bills, we have to.”
TRUTH: Nothing can be further from the truth. Federal Glover pays all of his bills from his own salary. Nunn believes the voters are not smart enough to see through his flier of half-truths, misrepresentations and out-and-out lies.
