Novato Advance covers Dan Keen’s move to Concord City Manager

dan keen new concord city managerInteresting quotes attributed to Dan Keen in the Novato Advance article about his coming to Concord as City Manager. Here’s one: “There’s a tug of war between people who support and oppose development, and now we have people who are really pressing to see protection of the environment and prevention of global climate change … Addressing (those interests) will be a big challenge,” he said.

“I have an 18 year-old son who just graduated from high school, so I don’t have kids going through (the local school system),” he said. “My wife and I have been married for 25 years … We’ve gone through a lot together, and this is a decision we made together.”

“There were opportunities (in Concord) that were a good match for my skill set,” he said. “They have a closed naval weapons facility, and with Novato, I have two city’s worth of experience with converting and using closed bases.”

“I originally expected to be here longer,” he said. “It’s tough to move out of Novato, It’s a beautiful community, and we’ve had the nicest house we’ve ever lived in.”

“I’m proud of a lot of the things we were able to accomplish,” said Keen. “Clearly, on the development front, I’m proud of the fact that as a community with a reputation for being difficult for development, we got a lot done. When Whole Foods opens it will transform Grant Avenue … I’m also proud we were able to convince Costco to stay and expand, that’s going to be a big plus for the city’s general fund in the future.”
