Contra Costa Times endorsement of Gioia is suspect

The Contra Costa Times recently endorsed the re-election of John—I Never saw a tax I didn’t support—Gioia for Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. The endorsement contains outright distortions of the truth AKA lies; for example:

” …doesn’t seem to realize how hard Gioia is working on residents’ behalf to protect county services.”

NO, HE’S RAISING TAXES TO PROTECT HIS COUNTY EMPLOYEES

“For example, he was a leader during the past few years as the county made significant strides to reduce but, unfortunately, not eliminate the unfunded liability for retired workers’ health care costs.”

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!

“Gioia has helped steer the pension board back from a point a decade ago where it was making unrealistic decisions that favored employee unions without regard to the effect on taxpayers.”

GIOIA IS THE PENULTIMATE UNION SUPPORTER…

‘But we were disappointed that Gioia and the board only applied the changes to future workers, not to the current employees.”

BUT YOU SAID HE MADE SIGNIFICANT STRIDES TO REDUCE RETIREE HEALTHCARE COSTS…??

The Contra Costa Times has a history of endorsing the very people that are creating the County’s problems and not fixing them for fear of the Public Employee unions. Check the facts against any Times endorsement and you will probably find a very different story.
