Contra Costa Grand Jury should investigate County Hospital salaries
May 9, 2008
Contra Costa County’s Grand Jury should immediately begin an investigation of the County’s Medical Center. Specifically, it should investigate potential fraud on the part of administrators and lack of due diligence and oversight on the part of Contra Costa Supervisors (BOS) for not requiring audits and proper management to rein in labor costs.
According to SFGate, which recently revealed County Employee Salaries over $100,000, most of the top earners were from the hospital and health services.
There is no way any hospital in the Bay Area could operate with this level of mismanagement, or pay scale. The failure of the BOS to provide oversight, and minimal governance begs the utmost scrutiny. It’s either gross mismanagement or corruption on the part of current electeds responsible for blocking audits, union leaders, administrators, and employees who have colluded or looked the other way when critical county services and public safety budgets have been slashed.
