Halfway To Concord tests support for Yahoo Upcoming

August 5, 2008

Halfway To Concord is happy to post Calendar items for non-profit fundraising, community, and political events. To that end we experiment here with a new Web 2.0 tech from Yahoo called UPCOMING. Essentially, you visit http://upcoming.yahoo.com, then you can publish news about your own upcoming events and refer to them on UPCOMING site on your own site if you want. You could also check on upcoming events listed in other cities or regions to help plan a vacation. So check it out and let us know what you think. We are going to play around with this to see how to best make it work for our readership.

Recent problem accessing site

April 22, 2008

The recent problem that caused many to have problems accessing this site has been fixed.

The LinkedList Plugin I installed Sunday (without testing—idiot) that would show when other local blogs published a new post is a neat Web 2.0 idea, but it created a conflict with some other script function accessing PHP.

This caused the cookies it placed in visitor browsers to cause browser problems when a visitor refreshed a page when visiting, causing them not to see site, or have Error:406 message or warnings from IE7 that it could not read the format of content offered by the blog.

The upshot was that it took about 24 hours to realize that even though the plugin had been deactivated and removed, the solution also required users to remove the cookies this conflict installed. It only affected one’s ability to access Halfway To Concord with no other impact.

That said, if you or a friend or colleague have experienced any such difficulties simply delete the cookies in your browser from Halfway To Concord, and start fresh.

And please let me know if you experience any other problems. I promise I will check things out more thoroughly and apologize for any confusion.
