Food Bank offers free meals for kids during Summer

With summer vacation just getting under way for school children, the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano is encouraging participation in summer food programs.
Many schools and organizations in Contra Costa County are offering free, nutritious meals and snacks throughout the summer including sites in Antioch, Concord, Pittsburg, Bay Point, Richmond, and San Pablo. Summer food programs work by providing free meals and snacks to children and teens ages 18 and younger when school is not in session. Read more
Hospice nurses receive national recognition

The End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) recently announced that Pauline Jones, RN and Linda Flumerfelt, RN of Hospice of the East Bay (formerly Hospice and Palliative Care of Contra Costa), will be honored as “Distinguished ELNEC-Geriatric Trainers” at the 50th National ELNEC “Train the Trainer” course celebration being held in Chicago this June. The honor being bestowed on these nurses is for their excellent effort in teaching other healthcare professionals how to deliver enhanced, compassionate care to terminally ill patients.

Wellness Center wins HEDCO grant to expand cancer support services in Walnut Creek

The Wellness Community of the San Francisco East Bay announced it has been awarded a major challenge grant in support of its campaign to improve their current facility and expand and enhance services. The Wellness Community is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive support services for cancer patients and their families from throughout the Bay Area. The grant was made by the HEDCO Foundation, which will match donations of up to $80,000 in support of the project. Read more

AB-624 to require foundations to collect race and gender data

Liz Callahan, Executive Director of The CBO Center, has sent out an all point bulletin to the Non-Profit community to inform them about pending legislation of import. AB 624 would require private, corporate or public operating foundations with assets over $250 million to collect race and gender data related to their governance structures and staffing, and to the governance structures and staffing of their domestic grantees.
