STAND! Against Domestic Violence, invites community members to its 16th Annual Rebuilding Lives Luncheon, October 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Concord Hilton. The program will include a special tribute to Catalina Torres, a former client and continuing STAND! advocate, and Sergeant Paul Starzyk, who lost their lives September 6th trying to protect innocent lives from senseless violence.

Red Cross to recognize Hospice of the East Bay as a 2008 Community Service Hero, Oct 17

Hospice of the East Bay will be honored, alongside other local heroes, on Friday, October 17, from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM, at Scott’s Restaurant and Garden, in Walnut Creek . The event will recognize local individuals and organizations whose actions exemplify the true spirit of heroism through their courage, dedication and character. Local businesses, civic and community leaders and volunteers will come together to acknowledge these heroes and support the American Red Cross.
Tickets for the Contra Costa County Heroes Breakfast are available for $50 per person, and may be purchased online at www.redcrossbayarea.org/heroes, by calling (415) 427-8170 or at the event. All proceeds support the disaster preparedness and relief efforts of the American Red Cross in the Bay Area, including efforts in Contra Costa County .

Contra Costa Sheriff and Concord Police seize 91 pounds of meth

The Contra Costa Sheriff’s Department in association with the Concord Police, announced Monday that they had seized 91 pounds of methamphetamine during a raid in San Pablo. Street price for the drug was estimated at $2.3 million. Photo courtesy NBC-11.
