Abram Wilson names campaign team

Republican candidate for Assembly District 15, San Ramon Mayor, H. Abram Wilson, announced his campaign team: chief political strategist, Steve Presson; campaign manager, Matthew Del Carlo, and campaign fundraiser, John Bovée. Wilson faces Democrat Joan Buchanan in November’s General Election.

Del Carlo has served as Chief of Staff for Assemblyman Guy Houston in the 15th Assembly District. Bovée sports an 86% winning record in 300+ California campaigns. And Presson, who is also handling Republican Danny Gilmore‘s campaign for the 30th Assembly v Democrat incumbent Nicole Parra, is the chief strategist for the top two targeted Assembly races in California in 2008. Just keep Presson (no site) and Bovee (yech) away from Abram’s web site and no one will get ill.

MARY’S IN BED WITH THE UNIONS EVERYBODY KNOWS HER BACKDOOR POLICTICS. SHE IS MORE OF THE SAME.(IF YOU WANT THAT FINE)

THE BIGGEST OPPONENT TO THE REPUBLICANS IS GEORGE BUSH. EVERYONE HAS FOUGHT HARD TO OVERCOME THE LAST EIGHT YEARS AND NO ONE EXEMPLIFIES THAT MORE THAN MATTHEW DEL CARLO. HE HAS STOOD BY THE PARTY AND HIS CANDIDATES NO MATTER WHAT THEIR
COMMITMENT. (MR. WILSON HAS THE HIGHEST COMMITMENT OF ALL)

I SUPPORT MR. WILSON AND MATTHEW DEL CARLO AND ALL THE TEAM TO RUN A FAIR AND HONEST CAMPAIGN. (WIN OR LOSE)

Guy's most recent loss was not Matt's fault. The choice to run against Mary was a very ill founded tactical mistake, and it made Guy look like a career politician afraid to leave a cushie public trough job. Guy's choice to run against Mary put many, many of his loyal supporters in a lose-lose situation, and was the kiss of death for Guy.

Guy is a smart, intelligent and he will land on his feet. People don't realize that Guy has only lost one election, and Matt was involved in many of his victories.

What I meant by "failure starts at the top," is that in a campaign success begins at the very top, i.e. the candidate. Wilson was not aggressive and almost lost a gimmee in the primary. Maybe Houston thought he had a gimmee but did not have the resources at the end to respond to $250MM worth of IE shock and awe exploding in his face. That, plus the carpetbagger tag stuck. I am not sure any campaign manager could have overcome those negatives without another $200MM.

That said, both Renegade and Idiot make the point about the importance of this race, and it is up to the entire County GOP to understand that AD-15 has to be a line in the sand. All county Republicans— including the old guard, crotchety conservatives, thin-skinned prima donnas, and Mary's camp, should be raising their hands asking "how can I help," instead of scratching a grudge and kvetching about Del Carlo.

  4. Renegade GOP says

Well Village Idiot, I think You have Del Carlo wrong. I think he worked very hard for Houston. I think the Houston Campaign misunderstood the dynamics of a board of supervisor’s race. In the world of political consultants losing many races in a row is not a good thing. I think you will see a invigorated effort by

Del Carlo. Besides Wilson has a real stubborn streak so he is not ging to let the Village idiot tell him what to do!

The race for the 15th Assembly seat will pivot on the candidates. Wilson just did not seem to get it andran a lackluster primary race. But by virtue of name ID in San Ramon…. He won! Buchanon and a fired up local Democratic party will give him all he can handle and then some. This is the Republicans only hope in Contra Costa. Everything republican is in disgrace. Dean Andal the great conservative hope is going down in flames. Just look at his fund raising. It will take everything the Local GOP has to hold the 15th seat. Conservatives used to call the 15th the "Conservate seat." Well if they don't want the sun to set on the Baker-Leach legacy they better get out of their rocking chairs and help out.

  5. Village Idiot says

Abram Wilson has made a serious tactical error in naming Del Carlo as his campaign manager. Hopefully he will wake up and dump Del Carlo very, very soon or risk the same fate that Houston experienced when his campaign for Supervisor turned into a disaster.

Del Carlo is a nice young man who doesn't work very hard at his job. In Houston's campaign he was always late in taking critical steps to confront allaegations against Houston, if he took them at all. He always just hoped they would go away but they didn't.

Yes, the developers and unions bought the election for Piepho (who now owes them) but Houston could still have won had Del Carlo been an astute and aggressive campaign manager.

Come on Abram and wake up before it's too late!!!

  6. Renegade GOp says

I think Wilson made a fine choice Del Carlo has a lot of experiece in the district.

He will do a great job.

  7. Mrs. Science says

If BT is talking about the Del Carlo who helped Mary win her fist election v. Millie Greenberg by 17 points, it sounds like some thin-skinned sour grapes. Everyone knows failure starts at the top. Just look at the County budget.

  8. bt says

I wonder why Wilson would hire this team…Del Carlo ran Guy Houston's embarrassment of a campaign this spring, in which Guy got pounded by 8% in his home county. I think Wilson could surround himself with a far better team than Contra Costa political re-treads, who's most recent "Accomplishment" was ending Guy's political career.
